Long Beach Island

LONG BEACH

ISLAND

The current Barnegat Lighthouse, completed in 1859 and designed to flash every 10 seconds, was constructed under George Gordon Meade, later a Civil War hero. In 1872, the U.S. Life-Saving Service built Station #17 in Barnegat Light, now a U.S. Coast Guard station.
